Media Education Intern

Description: This position is for someone with a passion for media and education to help us expand our media education program. The education program includes youth-oriented programs offered in collaboration with local schools, community classes open to all, certification classes in public access production and post-production equipment, youth and professional internships, as well as outreach, marketing and communications. Media education interns will work with the education director to:
Develop new programs and classes; coordinate and help produce educational videos; design/improve promotional materials and public relations strategies; recruit and retain teaching and outreach volunteers; teach computer literacy, video production/post-production, and media literacy; manage class and teacher evaluations, do data entry, create reports; do outreach to schools and social service agencies to promote classes and programs; answer phones, support volunteers, and help maintain the office; laugh a lot; help create a supportive environment where everyone is excited to come to work.

Please note: At this time, we are specifically looking for someone who is interested in training to teach our community education classes.

Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent writing and organizational skills, along with outstanding presentation skills, an interest in media education, experience living and working in diverse communities, and a passion for community access and/or independent media. Teaching or education coordination experience is a plus. Media, communications, writing, social science or education-related experience or education is preferred.

Video Production and Post-Production Intern

Description: Production interns will: Help coordinate and organize documentary film projects, TV shows, and non-profit promotional videos; help out on various shoots as production assistant with audio, lighting, camera-work, logging, etc.; assist in production training workshops; assist in various post-production efforts from editing to motion graphics and DVD design; learn the skills needed to become an Open Media Foundation contract producer/videographer; answer phones, support volunteers, and help maintain the office.

Qualifications: The Open Media Foundation is searching for a well organized, self-motivated individual with confidence, excellent communication skills, and a professional demeanor. Applicants should have an understanding of computer hardware. Some post-production, NLE and interactive media experience preferred, especially Final Cut Pro, Flash, Adobe After Effects, and/or DVD Studio Pro 3. Experience in DVD production, experience living and working within diverse communities, and a passion for independent media is a plus.

Web and IT Intern

Description: The Open Media Foundation/DOM is searching for a well organized, self-motivated individual to join our dynamic team of developers. As a rapidly growing media organization, we are looking to fill multiple skill-sets including web design, software development and internal systems management. Specifically, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the:
Design and implementation of our new online public access web community, including live streams and video on-demand; improvement of our web-based sign-up process for our media education classes; editing and enhancement of the Open Media Foundation's promotional DVD; development of an intranet for improved internal communications; design and implementation of data storage systems in regards to the public access streams and video on demand. Additional duties include answering phones, managing equipment check outs and supporting volunteers.

Intern will be involved in design and implementation of nonprofit client websites using Drupal, an open-source content management system. Specifically, intern will learn PHP, HTML, CSS, MYSQL, Java Script, and jQuery. In addition, intern may be working on website updates for the Open Media Foundation website and the Denver Open Media website which is managed by the Open Media Foundation. Intern may be responsible in helping to maintain the Open Media Project and tools associated. Learning how to train clients may be a part of the intern responsibility. The intern will also gain project management skills through leading teams of other development interns.

Qualifications: This is a flexible position and will be adapted to reflect your particular strengths. Applicants should have good general understanding of hardware and software and be willing to learn new technologies. Demonstrated knowledge of HTML/CSS, Ruby/Ruby on Rails, and/or video compression is a plus. Some limited training will be available, and passion for independent media is a must!

Development & Community Relations Intern

Description: The Open Media Foundation is growing and we're searching for a motivated individual to help expand our outreach program to meet our increasing needs. This position is for someone interested in learning all the aspects of marketing, networking, fundraising and outreach for a non-profit organization. Tasks will focus on building diversity into outreach efforts, which in turn will build a strong base of different types of supporters including members, students, donors, watchers, supporters and champions within the community.

There are two main roles, with various other tasks that may be assigned:

First Friday Community Liaison - every first Friday of the month we host a live event in the DOM studios. Partnerships with other organizations, artists and businesses in the community are vital to the success of these regular live events. This role includes promoting the event as well as maintaining communications with and managing attendees needs and questions and helping coordinate vendors, artists, volunteers, interns and staff.

YVYM Coordinator - bi-monthly we host Your Voice Your Media, a one hour introduction to the Open Media Foundation, its mission and programs, at our studios. This presentation by our staff and board gives a deeper insight into the philosophy and vision behind what we do & offer to the public, and includes a tour of our facilities. This position includes promoting, recruiting and engaging attendees as well as maintaining the database, materials, studio space and people involved with this regular event.

Other tasks might include assisting in planning annual fundraising breakfast, posting events and announcements to websites, develop speaking tours, videos and table displays, develop community outreach programs, promote memberships & classes, promoting underwriting packages to businesses and organizations, acquiring sponsorships, event planning and work with other interns and volunteers. They may be asked to contact donors, write letters and newsletter updates, support volunteers and help with office maintenance.

Qualificiations: This position requires someone who:

- is highly motivated, self-directed and has good initiative
- asks questions when needs direction
- is pro-active and not shy
- is a good writer & has good communication skills
- has strong organizational skills, flexibility, creativity, and confidence
- is able to communicate with a diverse community
- is knowledgable & comfortable with both Mac & PC Operating systems
- should have at least 2 years previous experience and/or education in marketing, communications or small business management
-has a passion for media, social change, and a dynamic, growing office environment
- has impeccable attention to detail
- has web-based research experience
-Grant-writing experience is not required, but may be helpful
- students interested in nonprofit fundraising, event planning, outreach and independent media are encouraged to apply

Studio Coordination Intern

Description: This position is for someone with an interest in learning the inner workings of a television studio. Studio interns will work with the station director to: Help with studio shoots; perform content digitization; help organize station events; do outreach in the community; maintain gear; do inventory, web research and data entry; work with youth interns; answer phones; manage equipment check-outs, support volunteers; maintain the office.

Qualifications: Applicants must be friendly and outgoing, have an interest in studio management, be excited about working with diverse populations, and have a passion for independent production. No prior experience in station management is required, as interns will be fully trained by the station manager, but candidates with technical expertise are preferred.

Graphic Design Intern

Description: Graphic design intern with knowledge in print, web design and TV graphics. The primary focus will be on the redesign of the Open Media Foundation's branding materials. Some tasks may include the redesign of the brochure, event flyers, lower third TV graphics and slides, and additions to the websites.

In addition, the intern may also be asked to contribute to the Open Media Foundation's client projects. The successful candidate will share our passion and commitment towards building sustainable websites, print materials and effective logo design for small businesses and non-profits working for positive social change.

Essential Qualifications:

* Ability to create intelligent and innovative design solutions for print, web, and t.v.
* Strong knowledge of Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign
* Ability to think outside of the box while collaborating with a larger development team
* Must be willing to be creative within very tight budgets
* Must have a passion for non-profits and utilizing the power of creativity/design to create positive change in the world

Bonuses:

* Basic knowledge of CSS and HTML

* Experience working with Content Management Systems (we use Drupal)

Paid Youth Media Internship

Description: This internship is designed for 16-24 year olds who have had children. Interns will receive training in video production (including Final Cut Pro, field & studio production) in order to produce their own videos. Interns will also learn how to launch a social media campaign and then practice with their own messages. Interns will collaborate to make public service announcements for TV and radio. By the end of the internship, participants will be required to create their own community-oriented video. Applicants should be open to discussing their experiences of having children. Applicants must have a passion for creating positive change in the world. We are looking for reliable applicants who can complete the 3-4 month internship.

Requirements:

* Applicants must be between the ages of 16-24
* Applicants must have a child
* Applicants must commit to working 12 hours a week
* Applicants must commit to working a total of 205 hours
